Mark Sten: Author of ALL AGES; Portland Punk, 1977-1981

The Origins of Portland Punk

Mark will lead an almost entirely question-and-answer presentation, following about 5 minutes of introductory remarks.  The audience will be encouraged - but not required - to focus initially on (a) punk rock, (b) in Portland, (c) from 1977 into the early 1980s.  After things get rolling, he's not too concerned with restricting the conversation to that particular topic.

Mark Sten moved to Portland in 1961 and he's lived here since, with the exception of a year in LA and a couple of years in Alaska.  He has a B.S. in history from PSU.  The only job he's held for longer than a year was as manager and co-owner of a sound reinforcement (PA) company called Concert Sound, from 1982 until 2013, a job that got him and his business partner inducted into the Oregon Musician’s Hall Of Fame.  He's played in a number of bands since 1969, and has released 6 full-length albums under the name of The Oblivion Seekers.
